Met a man in a fraternity who wants Eduardo to help him make a social website for college kids at Harvard
Not a computer expert
Very smart when it came to business
Mark Zuckerberg
Sophomore
Created a computer software called Synapse
Plug in for MP3 players that allowed players to learn user's preference and create play list based on preferation.
"Supposedly" offered 1-2 million dollars by Microsoft to work for them
"Mark's reputation, however, definitely preceded him: a computer science major who lives in Eliot house, mark had grown up in the upper middle class town Dobsberry, New York, son of a dentist and psychiatrist. in high school he'd supposedly been some kind of maser hacker, so good at breaking into computers that he ended up on some random FBI list somewhere, or so the story went. Whether or not that was true, Mark was certainly a computer genius"
Mark & Eduardo were not close in the beginning
"Certainly, he (Eduardo) had no way of knowing then or now that the kid with the curly hair struggling through the pre punch party was going to change Eduardo's life more than any Final Club ever could."
"For guys like Eduardo and mark was college life supposed to get better than this?"
Week 2 Pages 52-104
During this section of the book Mark Zuckerberg tries to hack into the houses' database.
Cameron, Tyler (Twins) and Divya talked to Mark about Facemash and what they had seen.
Cameron and Tyler want Mark to be a part of the creation of the website. They will meet up with him.
Cameron and Tyler meet with Mark and want to form a website called "harvardconnection" where you post pictures of yourself, personal info and links to find other people.
"According to The Harvard Crimson , Facemash "used photos compiled from the online Facebooks of nine Houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the 'hotter' person". To accomplish this, Zuckerberg hacked into the protected areas of Harvard's computer network and copied the houses' private dormitory ID images."
Quotes
"Yeah, wow. It got like twenty thousand hits in twenty minutes. Now the kid who created it is in a lot of trouble. Seems like he stole all the pictures off the houses' database. Hacked in and just download 'em all. Him and a few of his friends are gonna get ad-boarded."
